TheS3XY logo is finally complete – Tesla has officially unveiled its new crossover SUV Model Y. The new electric car will be delivered from 2020 and start in the basic configuration at 39,000 US dollars, the equivalent of about 34,500 euros.
On Wednesday, company boss Elon Musk presented the new Tesla Model Y in Los Angeles, reports The Verge. The “Y” completes the S3XY logo of the previously released Tesla cars S, 3 and X – where “3” was originally “E” and had to be renamed because of name problems.
The new Model Y is more spacious than the Model 3, both in the interior and trunk, and is not as bulky as the Model X. Depending on the version, the new model accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.5 to 5.9 seconds and reaches a range between 370 and 540 kilometers. The top speed is up to 240 km / h. The Model Y has the “functionality of an SUV,” Musk stressed on stage, but drives “like a sports car”.
Tesla Model Y: These are the prices
The battery-powered electric vehicle is sold in Germany in the “Longe Range” version with front-wheel drive for € 55,000, while the model with four-wheel drive costs € 59,000. The performance variant, which is characterized by fast acceleration and high top speed, is sold for 67,000 euros. The base model, however, which costs the equivalent of around 34,500 euros, will be available only at a later date in 2022. All other models are to be delivered already from the spring of 2021 and can already be pre-ordered.
The new Tesla Model Y is also compatible with the latest generation of Tesla Superchargers, so it will be super-fast on energy. While the first V3 superchargers have already been set up in the US, the faster charging stations in Germany will not be available until the 4th quarter of 2019.
