Huawei is developing its own operating system – for emergencies

The Chinese manufacturer Huawei has developed its own operating system for smartphones and desktop PCs. The company prepared this system in case it was banned from using Android and Windows.

Huawei would like to continue to use Android and Windows for his smartphones and laptops. However, in the context of political conflicts with the US government, the Chinese manufacturer is preparing for the worst. For example, Richard Yu, head of the largest Consumer Business Group division, told World Online that it was developing its own operating system.

“We have our own operating system”

“We have prepared our own operating system, so if we ever get out of using these systems, we would be prepared, that’s our plan B,” said Richard Yu. The US has excluded Huawei from offering its smartphones and technology for 5G networks in the US market.

Yu believes that there are no technical reasons for the fear that Huawei’s security would be compromised. Apparently, however, there is the fear that the US government could ask Microsoft and Google to stop providing their operating systems for Huawei.

Huawei would rather not use the system

The US fears spying and Chinese government interference using Huawei technology.Huawei has been working on an Android alternative since 2012, according to the South China Morning Post, when the US initiated an investigation by Huawei and ZTE. The Chinese company wants to use its operating system only when the political situation is deteriorating, but “we do not expect to have to use the backup systems, and frankly, we do not want to use them,” a Huawei spokesman told South China Morning Post.
